Shedden targets BTCC crownposted in BTCC08 | 10 | 2010

MULTIPLE BRITISH Touring Car Championship race winner Gordon Shedden heads into tomorrow's qualifying at Brands Hatch for the opening race of the final triple-header of the season knowing he needs luck to be on his side.

The 30-year-old from Dalgety Bay is third in the championship, 21 points behind the Chevrolet of leader Jason Plato and just four behind his own Honda Racing team-mate Matt Neal.

“Honda has already wrapped up the manufacturers’ title, so Brands is going to be all about the drivers,” Shedden said, “and that means Matt and I can go flat out for wins.

"This is my first time being in the final shoot-out for the championship, but I feel very relaxed and I know it's down to my performances on the day.

“I know I need to win at least one of the races to be in with a chance of the title, so that will be my initial aim. After that, it depends on what happens to the others.

"The racing here is always so close that it is going to be very hard to call, but I won't give up on the title until it is mathematically impossible. All the time there's a chance, I'll be giving it full throttle to keep the dream alive.”
