Bogie clinches second Scottish titleposted in SRC04 | 09 | 2010

SCOTLAND'S MOST talented young rally driver David Bogie clinched his second successive Hankook Scottish Rally Championship with a peerless drive in the penultimate round, the Wigtown-based Merrick Stages.

The 23-year-old from Dumfries set the tone of the 45-mile event right from the start when he emerged from the daunting 19-miler at Glentrool leading his nearest rival, Jock Armstrong from Castle Douglas, by seven seconds.

"I always knew today's first stage was going to be crucial," Bogie said today after spraying champagne from the bonnet of his Mitsubishi Evo IX. "It was important I got through that unscathed, and from then on everything went according to plan."

Bogie, fastest again through the third of the day's five stages at Drigmorn, backed off towards the end of the event to eventually finish on 44mins 12secs, 5.0s ahead of Armstrong's Subaru. Belfast's Jonathan Greer was third in his Evo IX, 11s behind Bogie. And the young Scots ace was delighted with his performance.

"This is the perfect end to a great year," he explained, wiping the stinging champagne from his eyes. "Last year was a tough one for a number of reasons, but this year has been a lot smoother.

"I think I've matured as a driver and I'm far happier and consistent with my pace. Working so closely with my co-driver Kevin (Rae) is great fun and it's important people remember we've won this as a team.

"It was always my ambition to be Scottish Rally Champion, but to have won it two years in succession is pretty much a dream. I think it's a good reason to have a few beers tonight."
