Di Resta bags pole position at Brandsposted in DTM04 | 09 | 2010

BATHGATE'S Paul di Resta will start on pole position for tomorrow's round of the DTM Championship at Brands Hatch after dominating today's qualifying at the Kent circuit.

The 24-year-old Scot, who won the corresponding race 12 months ago, was fastest through all four sections of qualifying as he built on his quickest time from the morning session.

His quickest lap of 41.278secs in the final top four shoot-out could have been even faster had he not run a little wide at the final corner and put two wheels on the grass.

The Force India Formula One reserve and test driver had enough pace though to finish 0.052s ahead of second-placed Bruno Spengler. The Canadian made it an all-Mercedes front row with the Audi of defending champ Timo Scheider third.

"I said coming into the weekend that I knew I had to improve my performance in qualifying, and that's exactly what we've done as a team," Di Resta said after climbing out of his Mercedes.

"I've finished second in the last two rounds of the championship, which has been great, but starting from pole here at Brands I have to be confident I can turn that into a win.

"I know I have a super-quick car this weekend and as long as I can get away smoothly at the start and avoid any contact in the first two or three corners, I hopefully will be able to build a the gap I can keep till the end.

"But like any race, there's a lot that can go wrong. But I'm not thinking about that; I'm being positive and thinking only of the win."

Di Resta is currently third in the championship just two points behind Paffett in second, and 11 adrift of leader, Spengler.
