Di Resta fastest Merc driverposted in DTM17 | 09 | 2010

BATHGATE'S PAUL di Resta heads into tomorrow's qualifying for the latest round of the DTM Championship at Oscherslaben in Germany confident he and his team can improve on opening practice.

The 24-year-old, currently second in the championship nine points behind Canadian Bruno Spengler, was fastest Mercedes driver in fifth place; but the Scot wasn't surprised to see four Audis ahead of him

"Free practice today followed the same pattern as the last few races have; Audi ahead, but today we were a lot closer than we've been previously on Friday runs," Di Resta said. "Hopefully, as has been the case over the last three race weekends, we'll get noticeably quicker as the weekend goes on.

"My quickest lap of 1min 23.731secs meant I was the fastest Mercedes driver, immediately ahead of Bruno; but there were four Audi drivers ahead of me led by Timo Scheider. But Timo was just 0.660s quicker than me. Fingers crossed, when the guys dial the right numbers into the car overnight, we'll be faster in Saturday practice and then I can carry that forward into qualifying tomorrow afternoon.

"Then the next target is winning again on Sunday. I enjoyed the winning feeling at Brands Hatch a fortnight ago and I'm desperate to have it again. Believe me, I'll be doing everything I can to win and close the nine-point gap to Bruno."
