Di Resta wins again at Oscherslabenposted in DTM19 | 09 | 2010

BATHGATE'S PAUL di Resta today won his second successive DTM race, but the 24-year-old Scot had to recover from a botched pitstop by his Mercedes crew at Oscherslaben in Germany.

"Yeh, that was tighter than I had planned," admitted Di Resta, who eventually recovered to finish 1.271secs ahead of his Mercedes team-mate and championship leader Bruno Spengler.

"Unlike a fortnight ago at Brands Hatch, we had to work very hard right through the race to win this one. Starting from pole position was great and the first section of the race went according to plan as I gradually pulled away from Bruno in second place.

"The botched pitstop though cost me three seconds and meant Bruno was in the lead after the first round of pitstops."

But such is Di Resta's new-found maturity, and desire to win the championship before his expected switch to Formula One with Force India next year, that he put together a series of blindingly quick laps to repair the damage.

"I just put my head down and essentially drove as fast as I could," he continued. "That meant we could stay out on the track a little bit longer and wait for the perfect moment to make our second pitstop. When we did, we came out on lap 34 back in the lead and I was able to control the race to the finish.

"I'm conscious though that Bruno still leads me by seven points in the championship and even if I win the remaining three races, all he has to do is finish second and he'll take the title.

"I'd never wish ill on another team-mate, but there's no denying I need a bit of help if I'm to lift the championship. All I can do is keep my head down, make sure I do the best I can in all three remaining races and keep the pressure on Bruno."

Di Resta returns to Scotland this evening for 36 hours before he flies to Singapore on Tuesday to prepare for his run in the Force India car on Friday ahead of this weekend's Singapore Grand Prix.
