Franchitti aims to break hoodooposted in INDY03 | 09 | 2010

A WEEK after winning in Chicago, Bathgate's Dario Franchitti bids to take another significant step towards retaining his IndyCar title when heads to the 1.5-mile superspeedway at Kentucky.

The 37-year-old, who started the Chicago race 51 points behind championship leader Will Power, and left trailing by just 23, knows he must break a something of a hoodoo if he is to win tomorrow.

“We always run well at Kentucky, but we don’t have the results to show for it, so it would be nice to fix that this season," Franchitti, who will again pilot his Target Ganassi car, admitted.

"My best finish there over the years has been sixth, and that was last year after I started second. In 2007, I also qualified second but finished eighth, but as you might remember I ended up taking quite a tumble at the end."

That 'tumble' saw him catapulted skywards after he collided with the rear of Kosuke Matsuura's car at the end of the race. Miraculously, the Scot walked away from his wrecked car. Franchitti though returns to Kentucky confident.

"We have a bit of momentum after the win last weekend in Chicago," he continued, "and we have to make sure we continue that through this weekend. There's only three races remaining in the season, so every point now is crucial."
