Monte returns to Scotlandposted in MSPOR11 | 09 | 2010

SCOTLAND'S ROAD are to once again form part of the world's most famous rally. For the first time since 1973, Glasgow will be one of the starting points for next year's historic Monte Carlo Rally.

The event, which will take place in January, will immediately bring back memories of when thousands lined Blythswood Square to wave off the cars on their way to the French Alps.

The confirmation of the inclusion of Glasgow was made by the Automobile Club de Monaco. Next year marks the centenary celebration of the rally and Scotland's return to the schedule is a result of the tireless work carried out by the campaign team, led by the Caledonian Classic and Historic Motorsport Club.

"Growing up in the 50s and 60s, it was always an ambition of mine to go to Blythswood Square and sample the magic of the Monte Carl rally myself," CC&HMSC chief Douglas Anderson explained. "Now it is an ambition fulfilled and it is fantastic news that we have been able to bring the glamour of the Monte back to Glasgow."
