RallyScotland retains 2011 dateposted in RSCOT29 | 09 | 2010

RALLYSCOTLAND has retained its position as the penultimate round of the Intercontinental Rally Championship for 2011 after the calendar for next year was confirmed today.

The Perth-based three-day event, which this year runs from October 15-17, will keep the same Friday, Saturday, Sunday slot for 2011 running from October 14-16.

"It's a fantastic boost for rallying in Scotland," RallyScotland clerk of the course Iain Campbell said today. "We're well on course to put on an amazing event in two weeks and it's great for everyone involved to know we have the same slot for 2011."

The 12-round calendar for 2011 starts on January 19 in Monte Carlo before heading around the globe to include countries such as Argentina, Spain, France, Belgium, Portugal, Italy and the Czech Republic.

Such is the growing strength and significance of the IRC that two classic former World Rally Championship events — Tour de Corse and Hungary's Mecsek Rallye — will join the series next year.

"The IRC continues to go from strength," IRC general manager Marcello Lotti said. "Both our new events in Cyprus and Hungary are uncharted territory for the IRC but both enjoy significant public interest."
