Di Resta bags Moscow podiumposted in DTM20 | 08 | 2016

BATHGATE’S PAUL DI RESTA boosted his hopes of winning the German Touring Car Championship (DTM) when he finished second in today’s round in Moscow.

The former Formula 1 racer, and 2010 DTM champ, helped Mercedes complete a podium lock-out at the end of a race dominated by atrocious conditions.

A downpour between qualifying and the start of the race meant it started with three laps behind the safety car.

While polesitter, fellow Brit Gary Paffett, finished third, Canadian Robert Wickens mastered the soaking conditions at Moscow Raceway to win and move into the championship lead.

“I’ve got to be happy with that,” admitted Di Resta, a race winner earlier this season at Hockenheim, and now just 16 points behind his Mercedes team-mate in the title battle with seven races remaining.

“Conditions today were appalling, and at times it was all we could do to keep the car on the track, it was so slippery.

“But another podium is a great result for me, and for Mercedes to fill all three places on the podium is great for the Manufacturers’ Championship.”

The performance moved Mercedes five points clear of Audi in the race for the manufacturers’ crown, ahead of tomorrow’s second race in Moscow.
