Newsham gets Rockingham BTCC seatposted in BTCC23 | 08 | 2016

HIGHLAND-BASED DAVE NEWSHAM will again race in the British Touring Car Championship this weekend. The former race winner will deputise for Kelvin Fletcher in the Power Maxed Racing Chevrolet Cruze at Rockingham due to the late arrival of Fletcher's first child.

Newsham carried out the same ‘stand-in’ role at Knockhill, where he qualified P10 before finishing seventh in race one. The result was PMR’s highest-placed finish of the season and first top 10 of the year.

Yesterday, Newsham confirmed he has terminated his assault on this year’s British Rallycross Championship in order to focus on a full-time return to the BTCC in 2017.

"I had a great outing at Knockhill, and it has made me realise this is where my heart is,” 49-year-old Inverness-based Newsham said today.

“Last time out at Knockhill — a circuit which wasn’t particularly suited to us — I certainly learned lot, and the car has moved on a lot since I last raced in it in 2015, so I’ll be heading to Rockingham with more confidence.

“It has been a tough decision for the Power Maxed Team and I to pull out of British Rallycross, however, I need to do everything I can to get back to the BTCC.

“The chance to have another weekend in the championship I love is perfect; we will all be thinking of Kelvin and Liz and waiting for some exciting news."
