Techeetah fastest on Day 1posted in FE05 | 09 | 2016

FORMER F1 ACE Jean-Eric Vergne topped the timesheet on the opening day of the final pre-season testing ahead of the new 2016/17 Formula E season.

The Frenchman lapped the Donington circuit in his Renault-powered Techeetah in 1min 29.640secs, just 0.006s short of his own lap record at the Leicestershire circuit.

Interestingly, he could have gone faster later in the final hour, but backed out of the lap.

Vergne’s impressive afternoon left him just under three tenths faster than his former DS Virgin team-mate Sam Bird. The top three was completed by the Renault e.dams of Nico Prost.

Jaguar continued to bed itself into the all-electric championship, with Adam Carroll clocking the British team’s best lap-time from pre-season testing so far with a 1m30.713s.

Carroll finished the day seventh-fastest, with his likely team-mate, Mitch Evans, 14th after lapping in 1:31.699s in the second Jaguar. Between them, the dup completed 75 laps.

Testing continues through tomorrow and Wednesday, ahead of the season opener in Hong Kong on October 9.
