McPhee bags another Moto3 podium posted in OTHER09 | 04 | 2017

SCOT JOHN McPHEE continued his excellent start to the Moto3 GP season by bagging a podium finish for the second successive race. (Related: McPhee reflects on Qatar Moto3 GP podium)

The 23-year-old from Oban, who started the Argentina Moto3 GP at the 2.98-mile Termas de Rio circuit from pole position, powered his British Talent Team Honda to another second place.

The Scot finished just 0.261secs behind the Honda of Joan Mir, with fellow Spaniard Jorge Martin third. Mir became the first Spanish rider to win back-to-back Moto3 GPs since 2014.

“That definitely was an exciting race,” a delighted McPhee, who finished second in the season-opener in Qatar a fortnight ago, said today.

“Joan rode a brilliant race and set the pace right through. To be honest, I wasn’t quite expecting the pace to be that fast all the way through.

“On the last lap, I had it all lined it all up to pass him. I knew he was strong on the brakes, but I was better on the exit of all the corners.

“I’d hoped to be able to do a block pass on him in the final corner and take the lead, but he braked so deep and I went in a bit to hot. In the end we and both ran out too wide.

“But it’s great to finish second again and get some more strong points in the fight for the championship.

“Of course I’m a little frustrated at not being able to get the win, but it’s a long season and i’m confident the win won’t be long in coming.”
