New generation Focus from £15,995 16 | 12 | 2010

SCOTTISH FORD dealers will have the all-new Focus on sale in their showrooms next March with prices starting at just £15,995 for the lead-in model, the Ford Focus Edge, powered by its 1.6-litre 103bhp petrol. The 1.6-litre 93bhp TDCi Edge will set you back £16,995.

These prices include VAT at the new rate of 20%; worth noting though that in real terms the base model actually is increased by £500 over the current car.

On the good news front, Ford has confirmed all new Focus models will come with Ford’s Torque Vectoring technology, plus a DAB digital radio, Bluetooth and USB connectivity, front, side and curtain airbags, voice control, ESP, ABS and Isofix as standard.

If pay the extra £1000 for the Zetec range, your Focus also comes with 16in alloys, a heated windscreen and door mirrors, leather steering wheel, front fog lights and sports seats. Further up the range, the Titanium starts at £18,745 for a 1.6-litre petrol in 123bhp trim. Its additional spec includes keyless start, dual-zone climate control, hill start assist, automatic wipers and headlights, cruise control and a tyre pressure monitoring system.

Take the quantum leap to the range-topping Titanium X — which starts at a rather eye-watering at £21,245 for a 1.6-litre, 148bhp Ecoboost-engined variant — and you get partial leather trim, 17in alloys, parking sensors, bi-xenon headlights, LED daytime running lights, headlight washers, an electrically adjustable driver’s seat and electric folding mirrors. All-in-all, not a bad list.

Of course, there's a significant options list, including a lane departure warning system and a blind spot monitor. There's also a Sony-based navigation system which includes a rear-view camera.

Ford, as you would expect, have delivered a comprehensive range of powerplants in the new Focus. The 1.6-litre engines produce 104bhp, 123bhp and 148bhp, while the 1.6 and 2.0 diesels deliver 94bhp, 113bhp, 138bhp and 161bhp. The smaller diesels get stop-start as standard, while the 2.0 diesels are also available with Ford’s dual-clutch gearbox.

Following on from the five-door, which goes on sale in March — Ford has no plans to introduce a three-door — the estate is expected in Scottish Ford showrooms in September.
