Soft-top Golf due in 2011 04 | 11 | 2010

VW WILL LAUNCH a new Golf Cabriolet in 2011, and the open-top sun-cruiser will be fitted with a traditional folding soft-top — the first since the third generation Golf — rather than the metal folding hard-top which adorns the current Eos coupe-cabriolet. It's expected the Golf will use the same fabric roof currently fitted to the Audi A3 cabrio. Both cars share the same platform.

As you'd expect, it's far too early for VW to give any indication on pricing, but the smart money's on it being around £18,000; that would place it below the entry-level £20k mark of the current Eos (pictured) and A3 cabriolets.

The soft-top Golf — which will have an engine line-up similar to the rest of the range — will be in VW's Scottish showrooms well in advance of summer 2011.
