£13k Golf with a Twist 06 | 10 | 2010

SCOTS LOVERS of Volkswagen's Golf will be pleased to learn there's a new entry-level model in Scottish showrooms. The Golf Twist, powered by a 79bhp, 97lb/ft, 1.4-litre petrol engine and mated to a six-speed manual transmission, costs just £12,995.

Available to order now in three- or five-door bodystyles, the Twist comes complete with £700 of additional standard equipment over the previous entry-level Golf, the S, on which it is based. That car costs from £14,880.

Standard equipment on the Twist includes 16in Atlanta alloy wheels, an RCD 310 radio system with MDI multimedia connectivity and safety kit including ABS, ESP and seven airbags.

And while it'll never set the heather alight, it's not exactly a slouch. The Twist will accelerate from standstill to 62mph in 13.9secs and on to a max of 107mph. It has combined economy of 44.1mpg and CO2 emissions of 149g/km.
