Merc recalls C- and E-Class 12 | 10 | 2010

JUST DAYS after German neighbour BMW announced a major recall, Mercedes-Benz is to recall saloon and estate variants of the C-Class and saloon, estate, coupe and convertible E-Class models across Scotland.

The problem, which has forced Mercedes to recall 22,355 cars in the UK — globally 85,000 cars are being recalled — is due to a potential problem with the power steering. The problem is believed to be restricted to cars built between June 2009 and February 2010.

Mercedes-Benz said the problem involved fluid being lost from the power assisted steering system.

"We are checking every single car and writing to all affected owners inviting them to bring their vehicles in to their local dealer," Rob Halloway, Mercedes-Benz UK PR manager, said. "This is purely a precautionary matter and we are not aware of any incidents or accidents as a result of the problem."

Owners of any of the models listed above should contact their local Scottish Mercedes dealer to get a free 30 minute repair to fix the problem.
