Order book opens for new Leaf 06 | 09 | 2010

ORDER BOOKS are now open for Nissan's electric vehicle Leaf, and the company is allowing customers to put down a returnable holding deposit. Click on to www.nissan.co.uk/leaf, leave your deposit of just £257 and you'll have secured your new Leaf.

You'll then get the chance to test drive the Leaf before the end of the year; following that you'll need to formally confirm your order before it goes on sale in the UK early next year.

The Nissan's priced at £23,990 (including £5,000 government incentive) and deliveries of the new model will start in March. Capable of a top speed of over 90mph, it can travel up to 100 miles on a full charge depending on the speed driven.

All models come with aircon, satnav, a parking camera as standard and a choice of five exterior colours and one specification trim level. The Leaf also comes with smartphone connectivity: this enables owners to check charging levels, plus heat or cool the interior of the car remotely via their handset.

“Leaf is generating huge interest across the world, with more than 25,000 customers already putting down deposits in the US and Japan," Paul Willcox, managing director of Nissan Motor (GB), said. “Initial interest across retail and fleet channels could result in demand outstripping initial supply.”

British Gas and Ikea have both already expressed interest in taking on the Leaf for their fleets.
