MERCEDES HAS confirmed — as we told you on Friday — that the all-new C-Class sports coupe will officially arrive in Scottish dealerships in June. With prices starting at around £30,000 for the model, which is the spiritual successor to the CLK, the newcomer will go head-to-head with the BMW 3-series coupe and Audi A5.

Not surprisingly, the new C-Class coupe shares a platform with the revised C-Class saloon; it's also the same length, 4590mm. But with its 41mm lower roofline, the coupe boasts a much sleeker profile.

It's pretty well specced: standard in the UK will be an AMG Sports pack with lowered suspension, 18in alloys and bodykit. There's also talk of a fully-blown AMG model — powered by the latest 418bhp 5.5-litre non-turbo V8 — which should make it to showrooms across Scotland in September.

When the coupe goes on sale in June, there will be a comprehensive selection of engines, two diesel and three petrol.

The entry-level £30k C180 is powered by a 152bhp four-cylinder 1.8 petrol equipped with a six-speed manual ’box, with the range rising to around £38k for the 302bhp 350CGI V6. Elsewhere, the range also includes a 161bhp 220CDI, 197bhp 250CDi and 197bhp 250CGi, with a new seven-speed auto optional.
