Mazda reveals new CX-5 crossover 01 | 03 | 2011

THIS IS MAZDA'S new CX-5 compact SUV — well, it's the Minagi concept which was unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show today but which will, in all essence, become the production version of the compact crossover.

The Minagi uses Mazda's new “Kodo - soul of motion” design style which is a precursor to the style of Mazda’s forthcoming products. the new CX-5 will sit below the CX-7 in the Mazda line-up and is aimed at helping the Japanese brand compete with models like the Ford Kuga and the VW Tiguan.

The Minagi also uses Mazda’s new Skyactiv engine technology which UK execs described last week as one of the most important launches in the company’s history.

Skyactiv will introduce new petrol and diesel engines which will “drastically” reduce emissions while still enhancing performance. Mazda saidit is looking to turn the 70% waste/30% energy ratio of the combustion engine on its head with the Skyactiv technology.
Mazda has also revealed its Shinari concept, a four-door sports coupe concept which also displays the new Kodo design style.
