Revisions to Infiniti's BMW rival 09 | 03 | 2011

INFINITI WILL take the battle to BMW with its new G-series and the Japanese manufacturer has revised the car it believes can go head-to-head with the sector-leading 3-series.

The tweaks to the G-series — on sale at Infiniti's Scottish dealership in Glasgow, with prices starting from £33,508 for the entry-level version and a choice of four model options, G37, G37x GT, G37x GT Premium and G37 S Premium — are pretty significant.

The range — which includes saloon, coupe, and convertible models — is now fitted with Infiniti’s 3.7-litre petrol V6 which is mated to a seven-speed automatic transmission; it's also got steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters as standard. New paint colours are offered across the range, while there's also a choice of new alloy wheel designs on the Coupe and Convertible.

While the G37 saloon is fitted with 18in alloys and will hit 60mph in 5.9 seconds, the G37x GT — which gets all-wheel drive, leather trim and heated seats — costs from £36,538. Step up to the £40,264 GT Premium and you also get cruise control, sat-nav, sunroof and reversing camera as standard.

The top spec S Premium comes with rear wheel drive, and adds sport suspension and sports seats to GT Premium; prices start at £40,574.

There are three specs for the coupe, with prices starting at £36,319 for the G37 S Coupe, rising to £41,395 for the S Coupe Premium; the range-topped comes with sat-nav with voice command, rear spoiler and 19in alloys.

If it's the romantic 'wind-in-your-hair' experience you're after, then check out the convertible. The open-top range has been simplified to one equipment model costing from £45,185. For that you get climate controlled front seats, sat-nav and cruise control; splash out an extra £980 and you get red leather and wood interior trim.
