Scot Callum's MkII goes on sale 05 | 09 | 2014

JUST DAYS AFTER Scots design guru Ian Callum revealed his modern take on the iconic Jaguar MkII, it's been confirmed a limited edition of the car will go on sale … with prices costing between £350,000 and £375,000 each.

The car, built by Classic Motor Cars (CMC), was originally revealed as a one-off for Dumfries-born Callum —  director of design at Jaguar Cars — for his own use, but today the company said it had sparked an “amazing” response.

“The car was only unveiled to the public just over a week ago but has attracted interest from all over the world,” said Peter Neumark, CMC chairman, said.

"At the launch of the car I said we would love to build more, but little did I think the response would be so great. Within hours we'd received calls from people all over the globe asking if they could buy one. We asked Ian Callum if we could produce a limited run and he has said ‘yes.’”

The decision to give the green light to the limited run of the 'new' MkII was, not surprisingly, welcomed by Callum.

“I redesigned the car and CMC rebuilt it and reengineered it for my personal use," the former Glasgow School of Art pupil continued.

"I wasn’t sure how it would be received but I have been both astounded and delighted with the response. I am pleased that a few more cars are going to be built.

"This is a very personal statement — a long-held notion that, although the MkII has always been a beautiful car, it could be even more exciting in shape and performance.

“Whilst maintaining the purity of the car’s form, I wanted to add a number of modern twists to the design.

“Simplification and clarity were my objectives.”

Callum's latest version of the MkII is powered by a modified 4.3-litre Jaguar XK engine, new independent rear suspension and upgraded front brakes.

It also sits 3cm lower than the original, with bumpers integrated into the chassis, and four vertical louvres added on either side in front of the doors.
