Mercedes unveils 2016 DTM car 07 | 09 | 2015

MERCEDES HAS LIFTED the wraps off the car Scot Paul di Resta will race in next year's DTM championship. The car will be officially unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show next week.

"The DTM car again takes its design and technological cues from the AMG line of the new C-Class Coupe," Mercedes DTM chief Ulrich Fritz said.

"We took the first steps in adapting designs for the new DTM car last year."

Because of the fact the regulations have been frozen, the only changes are to the bodywork, above the defined 'design line' at the wheel arches.

"The regulations severely limit areas for development, so a large number of components have been taken from its tried and tested predecessor," Fritz explained.

"Obviously, in the DTM, we seek to continuously optimise the overall package and, consequently, the vehicle passes through various development processes and stages during the course of its entire life cycle as deemed necessary."

Such is Mercedes' investment aimed at turning round what has been another disappointing two years for the marque in the DTM, that the new new C-Coupe will only be raced in for one season. In 2017 the DTM's Class One technical platform, which is set to feature major changes, will be introduced.
