Scots car giant grows apprentices 21 | 11 | 2017

    SCOTLAND’S LARGEST CAR dealership group, Arnold Clark, has celebrated the fact 191 apprentices have graduate from its academies in 2017. (Related: Scots car giant seeks 200 technicians)

    The event, held at its training arm GTG Training in Glasgow, also saw 22 service and parts managers, and 54 service advisors graduate with industry qualifications, accredited by the Institute of the Motor Industry.

    And the training scheme is continuing to grow: 150 graduate apprentices celebrating in 2016, meaning a 27% increase this year.

    “It’s great to be back at GTG again,” Nadia McLatchie, level 3 mechanics qualified apprentice said. “I hope to one day progress to become a lecturer here, but at the moment I’m really looking forward to starting my work as a fully qualified mechanic at Kilmarnock Ford.” (Related: Arnold Clark backs apprentice awards)

    Matthew Clark, level 3 Light vehicle maintenance qualified apprentice added: “My apprenticeship has been a fantastic experience, and I’m so pleased to be qualified now.

    “The training I received at GTG was of a really high standard, and I’m looking forward to continuing my career at Arnold Clark Dundee Balfield Complex.”

    The success of the event was all praised by Stewart MacAulay, Arnold Clark aftersales director.

    “The event has been a great success and the hard work from each and every apprentice was not just recognised, but celebrated,” MacAulay said.

    “It’s a great feeling knowing that the careers of these apprentices are just getting started and we’re glad to have helped them take that first step. It’s important that as a company we are investing in the future workforce with our apprenticeship programme.”

    With more than 11,000 employees, Arnold Clark, which had a turnover of £3.4 billion las year, offers a wide range of industry training at its purpose-built GTG Training academies in Glasgow, Edinburgh and Wolverhampton.
