Ford reveals Bullitt Mustang GT 16 | 01 | 2018

FORD HAS LIFTED the wraps from its new Bullitt Mustang GT. Launched on the 50th anniversary of the iconic Steve McQueen Hollywood blockbuster, the car goes on sale in the summer. Ford though has yet to confirm whether the car will be available in the UK. (Related: Roadtest — Ford Mustang 5.0-litre V8)

Powered by a tuned version of the Mustang GT’s 5.0-litre V8 engine, which develops ‘at least’ 475bhp and 569Nm of torque, power is delivered — like the original — via a six-speed manual gearbox. According to Ford, it tops-out at 163mph, which is 8mph more than the ‘standard’ Mustang GT.

The Bullitt benefits from a standard-fit performance exhaust system, plus the open air induction system and intake manifold lifted from the Shelby GT350.

Colourwise, the Bullitt is restricted to a choice of Dark Highland Green or Shadow black, and the car sits on 19in black alloy wheels. Externally there’s also chrome details round the grille and front windows.

Inside the cabin there’s green decorative stitching, which is a nod to the 1968 original, plus you can tick the options box for Recaro racing seats. The options list also includes adaptive dampers, plus an electronics package that adds satnav, an uprated sound system,  blind spot monitoring, and driver memory seats and mirrors.

The new Bullitt Mustang GT takes pride of place on Ford’s stand at the Detroit Motor Show, along with the new Edge ST and Ranger pick-up.
