Audi ditches diesel from TT range 19 | 07 | 2018

AUDI WILL STREAMLINE its TT range when the updated version of the two-door arrives in showrooms at the end of 2018. Diesel will be ditched from the range, while the lowest-powered petrol will also be dropped. Instead the range will consist solely powered by 2.0TFSI engine. While it’s understood the more stringent WLTP have impacted on Audi’s decision, it’s also worth highlighting sales of the 2.0TDI TT have slowed dramatically recently. Last year the diesel accounted for just 16% of TT sales in the UK.

As for the remaining 2.0TFSI, it will be available in three states of tune. The new 40 TFSI produces 194bhp, which is 16bhp more than outgoing 1.8-litre TFSI, which is the current entry-level TT range. And while there’s a 242bhp 45 TFSi, the TTS gets 302bhp. That’s an increase of 4bhp on the current TTS.

The updated TT RS — which isn’t due to arrive until next year —  will retain the current 2.5-litre engine turbocharged five-cylinder engine.  Whether power output remains at 394bhp has yet to be confirmed.

The tweaked third-generation TT also benefits from number of additions to the standard kit. Even base level models now get Audi’s Drive Select system, plus automatic headlights and wipers. The standard Virtual Cockpit digital instrument cluster also gets  a new sports display.

External changes are subtle, with the updated TT getting a new single-frame front grille and larger side air inlets on the bumper. There’s more aggressive styling on the S Line models which are distinguished by a new front splitter and a wider diffuser at the back.

Audi is also marking the 20th anniversary of the TT adding a special, limited-to-999 units TT 20 Years model (pictured above)to the range. Mimicking the design and finish of the original TT concept, first shown in 1995, the anniversary model gets grey paint, new 19in alloys and a tan leather interior (below). It will be available exclusively with the TFSI 45 engine.
