Land Rover teases 2019 Evoque 14 | 11 | 2018
LAND ROVER HAS given buyers a sneak preview of how the second-generation Range Rover Evoque SUV will look. The company displayed a range of scale wire sculptures which it dotted around London. The new model will officially be revealed on November 22, with Scottish dealerships opening their order books the same day. Prices are expected to start from around £32,000. The new model comes eight years after the launch of the original Evoque, and Land Rover claims the second-gen will set new standards “of design, capability and sustainability”. It certainly needs to deliver, because the original has sold more than 750,000 units around the world. (Related: Land Rover teases two-door coupe)
Considering that fact, it’s not surprising the new Evoque won’t undergo any dramatic design changes. It’s clear from the wire sculptures the newcomer will stick closely to the current car’s overall shape; that means a fastback roofline and slender head and tail-lamps.
Externally, expect clear hints of the Velar in the second-gen Evoque, while inside the cabin it’s expected a dual-screen set-up will dominate the centre console and dash, as per its larger sibling. Interior space — especially in the rear — will also increase thanks to its stretched wheelbase.
And while buyers should expect some form of electrification to appear in the new Evoque range, powerplants will be dominated by JLR’s Ingenium petrol and diesel engines. That means power will range from from 148bhp to 296bhp.
Though it’s yet to be confirmed, it’s likely the new-gen Evoque will become the first JLR model to become available with a new mild-hybrid drivetrain. The system would combine a new three-cylinder 1.5-litre Ingenium engine with a small electric motor, backed up by a 48V electrical architecture. It’s also possible a diesel-electric hybrid will also join the range.
