New Volvo V60 Cross Country on sale 25 | 10 | 2018
VOLVO’S NEW V60 Cross Country — which is set to go head-to-head with the likes of the Audi A4 Allroad and VW Passat Alltrack — has gone on sale at Scottish dealerships priced from £38,270. First deliveries scheduled for early next year. (Related: Roadtest — Volvo V60 D4 Momentum)
The new model, the latest in a long line of rugged Volvo estates, will be available with Volvo's 187bhp D4 2.0-litre turbodiesel engine, which produces 400Nm torque. Volvo claims fuel economy of 55.4mpg and CO2 emissions of 135g/km. (Related: Volvo reveals V60 R-Design trim)
It’s expected mild hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions of the latest V60 Cross Country will join the range at a later date.
Clearly based on the standard V60, Volvo has given the new Cross Country several specific 4x4-inspired touches.
Externally the most noticeable is the fact its ride height has been raised by 60mm. There’s also a revised front grille insert which mimics the larger V90 Cross Country. (Related: New Volvo dealership for John Clark Motor Group)
Sitting on 18in alloys, the new model also benefits from LED headlights with adaptive high beam as standard. The rugged look is completed by extra plastic body cladding along the lower edges of the bumpers and sills, and wheel arch extensions.
Inside the cabin, it’s pretty much like the standard V60 estate. Sure you get a more commanding view of the road aside, but around you is everything which makes the modern-day Volvo the class-leading product we know.
The clutter-free dash is dominated by Volvo’s familiar portrait-orientated nine-inch touchscreen infotainment system with standard navigation. There’s also a 10-speaker surround sound audio setup, dual zone climate control and Volvo's On Call 24 hour roadside asistance also features. And when it comes to stowage, the boot can swallow 529-litres of luggage.
Not surprisingly, all V60 Cross Country models get four-wheel drive as standard. Also included are some pieces of more specialised offload tech, such as a specific offroad mode in the drive select, and hill descent control.
Safety, as you would expect, plays a big part in the latest Volvo, with he carmaker’s City Safety system, which can detect pedestrians, cyclists and large animals, as standard. The intelligent system has a semi-autonomous Pilot Assist system, which combines adaptive cruise control with steering assist on motorway style roads. It also has new Oncoming Collision Mitigation, which can detect imminent accidents with other vehicles, apply the brakes and prepare the car for impact.
