Honda reveals Urban EV sketch 24 | 01 | 2019
WHEN IT WAS unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2017, Honda’s Urban EV Concept grabbed the headlines. Now the Japanese carmaker has confirmed the production version will make its debut at Geneva in March. It’s also released this official ‘close to production’ sketch. While it’s clear the model in the sketch has been inspired by the Urban EV concept — which boasted wing-mounted cameras, a bonnet bulge and, most noticeably, the round headlamps — it appears the production version will be more conservative.
It’s also likely the concept’s three-door body style has been ditched for a more practical five-door layout. And crash safety requirements mean the production version has a bulkier and more rounded nose, plus thicker pillars than those seen on the concept.
Trying to gauge dimensions from a sketch is difficult, but it also looks like the production model will have a higher ride height than the concept, as well as being slightly narrower. As you can see though, it certainly looks like the concept’s quirky round LED headlamps have been retained.
Honda has yet to confirm any battery, power or range details, but given it’s to be focused on city use, it’s fair to assume the range is likely to be around 200-miles. Fast-charging is also likely to play a big part in the car’s attractiveness.
