KIA’S ALL-NEW, all- electric e-Niro will go on-sale from Scottish dealerships in April priced from £32,995 after the government’s £3,500 plug-in car grant has been applied. The Kia EV has an official range of 282 miles. (Related: Kia Ceed GT-Line and GT prices)

Power comes from a 64kWh lithium-ion battery pack, which drives a 201bhp electric motor and delivers a 0-62mph sprint time of 7.5secs. It will continue to reach a max of 124mph. Recharging to 80% capacity takes 54 minutes, and regenerative brakes also tops up the e-Niro’s battery when decelerating. (Related: Refreshed Kia Sportage range starts at £20,305)

Kia has also upped the safety stakes, with “smart” adaptive cruise control — capable of accelerating the e-Niro to motorway speeds from a standstill — forward collision avoidance, lane-keeping assist, and hill-start assist all available.
