Toyota RAV4 Black Edition 03 | 08 | 2020

TOYOTA HAS GONE over to the Dark Side, with the introduction of its latest special edition RAV4. Badged ‘Black Edition’, you’ll not be surprised to learn it has been fitted with a range of black cosmetic tweaks. It goes on-sale in October, but we’re still waiting for the price to be revealed. That aside, the RAV4 Black Edition gains intelligent parking sensors, a black paint finish called Galaxy Black, and new 19in gloss black alloy wheel upgrades over the standard car. The door mirrors, radiator grille, rear spoiler, skid plates and bumper trim have also all been swapped for gloss black replacements.

The black theme continues inside, where there’s now black synthetic leather upholstery with contrasting grey stitching and a new black headliner. But there’s also a clutch of new goodies, including a digital rear-view mirror, a 360-degree parking camera, and a nine-speaker JBL audio system; that’s all in addition to the car’s standard eight-inch infotainment system. Power for the Black Edition comes from the same unit found in all current RAV4 models. That means a 219bhp, 2.5-litre four-cylinder Atkinson-cycle petrol-hybrid powertrain, which delivers 221Nm of torque. Toyota has yet to confirm performance figures, but the standard car takes around 8.0-seconds to cover 0–62mph. Top speed should be around 111mph. (Related: Seven-seat Toyota Highlander heads for UK)

Expect fuel consumption of between 47.8 and 49.5mpg, with CO2 emissions of between 129 and 133g/km, depending on whether you choose front or four-wheel-drive.
