Ford's limited edition Ranger Thunder 19 | 05 | 2020
FORD HAS CREATED a new limited edition of its Ranger pick-up truck. Badged the Ford Ranger Thunder, the new model — limited to just 1400 units, and priced from £32,965 (excl VAT) — adds a number of cosmetic upgrades to the range-topping Wildtrak model. First deliveries are expected towards the end of the summer. (Related: 'Backbone of Britain' party put on hold)
The ‘Thunder’ gets LED headlamps, darkened tail lights, black replacements for the pick-up’s bumpers, skid plates, fog lamp surrounds and door handles; plus there’s ‘Thunder’ badges for the front doors and tailgate, new red radiator grilles and new 18in alloys. Inside the double-cab, there’s now ebony leather upholstery with the Thunder logo embroidered into the front backrest, enhanced by contrasting red stitching across all the cabin trim. Standard kit also includes black floor mats and a set of unique tread plates, which are backlit in red. There’s also an eight-inch infotainment system.
The options list includes a powder-coated Mountain Top roller cover for the load bed. Cleverly, the system comes with a divider, which allows owners to split the bed into two smaller sections and helping prevent items from rolling around. (Related: Ford Puma scoops What Car? Car of the Year)
Power comes from Ford’s 210bhp twin-turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder EcoBlue diesel engine, which delivers 500Nm of torque. As is the case with the standard Ranger, in the ‘Thunder’ that power is sent to all four wheels via a 10-speed automatic gearbox. Fuel? Ford says it’ll return 31mpg, based on WLTP, and emit 239g/km of CO2.
