VW reveals T-Roc Black Edition 25 | 05 | 2020

VOLKSWAGEN HAS INTRODUCED a new special edition of its T-Roc crossover. Badged Black Edition it, not surprisingly, adds a election of black styling details for the exterior and cabin, plus a host of additional equipment to the best-selling SE version of the T-Roc; in total, VW says there’s an extra £2000 of goodies included as standard. On-sale now, prices for the Black Edition start at £23,750. (Related: Review — VE T-Roc 1.0TSI Design)

Rather bizarrely, if you don’t like black, VW has made the ‘Black Edition’ available with the standard car’s colour palette. That means buyers get a choice of Energetic Orange, Turmeric Yellow, Ravenna Blue, Deep Black Pearl or Flash Red paint finishes. Anyway ….

Externally, the special edition gets rear privacy glass, blacked-out replacements for the standard car’s radiator grille, mirror caps, roof rails and exhaust tips, plus a unique decal for the C-pillar, LED headlamps, and new black 18in alloys. (Related: VW T-Roc Cabrio prices and trims)

As is the case with the ‘donor’ SE spec, the special edition comes with a pair of electrically heated and foldable door mirrors with integrated puddle lights, adaptive cruise control, plus front and rear parking sensors, and an eight-inch infotainment system with support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto all as standard. Inside the cabin, not surprisingly, the theme is black. In addition to the piano black dashboard trim, there’s black headlining, a leather-trimmed gear knob and a new multifunction sports steering wheel with contrasting grey stitching. Thankfully there’s also white ambient lighting. (Related: VW reveals 341-mile range all-electric ID.3)

Available only in two-wheel drive format, buyers can choose from four engines, two petrol and two diesel. The petrols are the 113bhp 1.0-litre three-cylinder and 148bhp 1.5-litre four-cylinder, while the diesels are 113bhp 1.6-litre, or 148bhp 2.0-litre four-cylinder unit.

“The T-Roc, with its focus on personalisation and individuality, already has abundant style,” Claire Haynes, T-Roc Product Manager at Volkswagen UK, said. “The Black Edition builds upon this, with its exclusive black-coloured trim and C-pillar decal adding an even more eye-catching edge to the funky T-Roc. “Add to this a package of extra equipment that boosts value by over £2000 and you’ve got a car that isn’t just appealing because of its looks but, because it’s a fantastic value package, is also a talented all-rounder.”
