Porsche Cayenne E-Hybrid gets update 30 | 10 | 2020

PORSCHE HAS GIVEN its duo of plug-in hybrid Cayennes an update, most significantly a larger battery pack that boosts all-electric running and efficiency. The Cayenne E-Hybrid is available to order now, with prices starting from £69,980, with the Coupe E-Hybrid £73,050. Both the Cayenne E-Hybrid and Turbo S E-Hybrid — each of which is also available in Coupe body styles — ditch the previous 14.1kWh battery in favour of a new 17.9kWh unit. Porsche says this will increase electric-only range by around 30%. To put that into perspective, the Cayenne E-Hybrid can now cover up to 25-27 miles solely using battery power, while the Turbo S E-Hybrid can cover up to 24-25 miles. The Cayenne E-Hybrid uses a 3.0-litre V6 turbocharged petrol engine developing 335bhp, in tandem with a 134bhp electric motor linked to the 17.9kWh battery. Because the engine and electric motor don’t produce maximum power at the same time, total power is 456bhp. Porsche says it’ll cover 0-62mph in 5.0-seconds, and top-out at 157mph.

Of more significance in real world driving terms is Porsche’s claim of 91.1mpg, CO2 emissions as low as 71g/km; plus up to 27-miles of electric-only travel. (Related: Porsche confirms base 911 prices)

The range-topping Cayenne S E-Turbo Hybrid retains the same twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 engine and single electric motor that combine to produce 671bhp. Porsche quotes 0-62mph in 3.8s and top speed of 183mph. Economy and CO2 are 74.3mpg and as low as 86g/km respectively. Prices start from £126,690, with the Coupe £129,290.
