MAZDA HAS RELEASED a limited-run version its iconic open-top sportscar, the MX-5. The new Sports Venture will arrive in dealerships later this month with prices start from £27,615. Just 160 examples of special-edition roadster will be available in the UK. (Related: Review — Mazda MX-5)
Based on Mazda’s Sport trim, the Venture carries a £1260 premium. However, it does come with a host of additional goodies included as standard, including Deep Crystal Blue Mica paint, a grey fabric roof and silver paint for the door mirrors and roll hoops. Inside the cabin, the seats are finished in a unique Light Stone Nappa leather. (Related: Mazda revises CX-5 crossover)
Power comes from a 1.5-litre petrol engine producing 130bhp and features a six-speed manual gearbox. On the standard car — and there appears to be no reason why the limited edition Venture will differ — that means 0-62mph in 8.3sec and a top speed of 127mph. Combined fuel economy is quoted as 44.8mpg. (Related: Limited edition MX-5 R-Sport)
The Venture also includes the normal standard equipment included in the Sport trim pack, including keyless entry, a DAB digital radio, an automatically dimming rear-view mirror, rain-sensing wipers, heated seats and 16in alloys. Apple CarPlay is standard across the MX-5 line-up.
“When it comes to driver engagement, the current-generation MX-5 has already established itself as a benchmark sports car,” said Jeremy Thomson, managing director of Mazda Motors UK. (Related: Revoew — Mazda MX-5 RF)
“The MX-5 is Mazda’s brand icon, and it embodies all that is great about our products. Its fun-to-drive character has strengthened the bond between Mazda and its customers for over 30 years, and the 2021 model continues this unswerving dedication to delivering an affordable world-class sports car.”
