SCOTS ENDURANCE RACER and British GT champion, Sandy Mitchell, has strengthened his sporting partnership with Lamborghini Edinburgh, writes Jim McGill. The 21-year-old from Forfar, backed by Scotland’s only Lamborghini dealership, will this year build that relationship even further. (Related: Mitchell to defend British GT title)

“Having the support of Lamborghini Edinburgh over the past few years has been really important and has helped contribute to the development of my racing career,” stated Mitchell, who will again drive a Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evo, prepared by Barwell Motorsport, in this year’s British GT Championship. “This year, I’m delighted to confirm Lamborghini Edinburgh will not only continue to be one of my major partners, but we have put in place a programme which will see me work more closely and directly with them throughout the year.

“We are in the process of finalising a number of events which should be really exciting,” Mitchell, a factory driver with the Italian supercar company, in addition to being a member of the British Racing Drivers’ Club’s elite SuperStars programme, continued. “These events should also further help bring the worlds of motorsport and Lamborghini directly to the Scottish public.”

Mitchell, also personally-backed by Huntly-based Black Bull Scotch Whisky, will start the defence of his British GT title when he partners new team-mate Adam Balon in the season-opener at Brands Hatch on May 22-23. (Related: Mitchell wins Allan Simonsen Award)

The Scot’s racesuit, helmet and race car will carry the Lamborghini Edinburgh logo. Andy Canning, the general sales manager of Lamborghini Edinburgh, part of the Sytner Group, is pleased to be working even closer with Mitchell.

“Everyone at Lamborghini Edinburgh is delighted to be working with Sandy and the team again in 2021,” Canning said. “There’s no doubt it will be another hard fought season, but with Lamborghini powering his challenge we know Sandy will be fighting again at the front of the pack.”
