The 22-year-old from Forfar will again partner Adam Balon in a Lamborghini Huracan Evo GT3 prepared by Barwell Motorsport. The duo are determined to better their top three finish in the campaign last season.

“I’m really looking forward to racing again in the British GT Championship,” Mitchell, who won the title in 2020, stated. “It’s also great to be partnering again with Adam and Barwell in 2022. (Related: Mitchell commits to 2022 British GT Championship)

“The British GT Championship is probably the toughest national title in Europe, and we know we’re going to face some fierce competition over the nine races spread out over seven weekends.

“There’s a bumper 32-car entry in the championship this season, which simply highlights how important the teams and drivers believe the championship is.” (Related: Scot Sandy Mitchell wins 2020 British GT Championship)

Mitchell, a Lamborghini factory driver and a full member of the British Racing Drivers’ Club, partnered by team-mate Balon bagged a podium position at a rain-lashed Oulton last season.

And Mitchell, personally backed by Huntly-based Black Bull Scotch Whisky and one of Scotland’s largest full-service legal and property firms, Thorntons Solicitors, is determined to at least replicate that feat when the duo tackle the two 60-minute races at the 2.69-mile, 17-turn parkland Oulton Park circuit on Easter Monday. “We’ve tested well in pre-season,” Mitchell continued, “so we know the car’s quick. Adam and I forged a really strong partnership which grew stronger and stronger as the 2021 season unfolded.

“We were able to take the fight tor the championship right to the final race, despite not scoring in the opening round when the car was taken out by a rival. (Related: Mitchell storms to Spa24H podium)

“We both know each other’s strengths and we’re definitely be in a position to start the season stronger in 2022. I can’t wait to get back on-track on Saturday.
