Citroen launches new entry-level e-C4 19 | 01 | 2022
CITROEN HAS TWEAKED its e-C4 range by ditching the previous entry-level Sense Plus trim level. Instead there’s now an even cheaper Sense spec which sees the electric coupe-SUV start from £28,495 (incl £1500 Govt plug-in car grant). That means the entry-level car is now around £2500 cheaper than it was at the end of last year. (Related: Updates for Citroen C4 and e-C4)
The trim and pricing restructure follows Citroen’s recent technical update in which it extracted an extra 18 miles of “real world” range from the e-C4’s powertrain. (Related: Green light for Ami Cargo in UK)
Powered by a 50kWh battery pack and a 134bhp electric motor mounted on the front axle, the e-C4 has a maximum range of 217 miles. It will also cover 0-62mph in 9.7secs and carry on to a max of 93mph. Linked to a 7kW wallbox, a full charge takes just over seven hours.
Not surprisingly, the new Sense trim doesn’t have the same levels of equipment as the outgoing Sense Plus. But users still get rear parking sensors, keyless go, electrically folding door mirrors, LED headlights and 18in alloys.
Inside the cabin the standard kit is still pretty impressive. A 10-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, dual-zone climate control and an integrated tablet mount for the passenger side of the dashboard are all fitted as standard. Buyers also get Citroen’s Advanced Comfort suspension and seats included in the Sense spec.
Elsewhere across the e-C4 range, Citroen has renamed the previous ’Shine’ trim; it’s now the ’Shine Edition’. I know: don’t ask. Including the Govt grant, this now starts at £30,495. (Related: facelifted Citroen C3 gets new look)
The Shine Edition retains the same equipment as outgoing e-C4 Shine. That means a two-position boot floor, a heated steering wheel, front and rear parking sensors, plus a barrage of additional driver-assistance technology.
There are also a number of tech upgrades over the Sense trim. Active blind spot detection and a traffic sign-recognition system, active cruise control, a head-up display, and even a function that can detect cyclists at night, are all standard
The range-topping e-C4 Shine Plus remains basically unchanged over the previous model. But being priced from £34,995 means it now misses out on the Govt plug-in car grant, which is now only applied to cars priced £32,000 or below. (Related: Roadtest — Citroen C3 Aircross)
Standard kit is, again, impressive with a wireless smartphone charging pad, an improved stereo with a subwoofer, black synthetic leather upholstery, heated front seats and black interior trim all included.
