Di Resta's "best ever" year in F1posted in F124 | 11 | 2013

BATHGATE'S PAUL DI RESTA narrowly missed on on scoring world championship points as he brought his 2013 Formula One campaign to an end in Brazil.

Despite dropping six places at the start, when his Sahara Force India suffered wheelspin, the 27-year-old Scot battled back to finish 11th.

"I'd have loved to have finished the season by scoring more world championship points, but unfortunately I had to settle for 11th at Interlagos," Di Resta said.

"I lined up 12th, and unfortunately the car suffered a huge amount of wheelspin at the start and as a result I dropped six places on the run up to the first corner.

"After that it was a case of sticking to the two-stop strategy we'd planned: but it was tough.

"The light rain made conditions tricky, and we chose to extend each stint, but I struggled for performance on the hard tyre at the end and I wasn’t able to challenge Ricciardo for the final point.

"Now it will be nice to get back home and have a bit of a break. It's been a long, hard season, so it will be good just to chill for a while and catch up with family and friends.

"This year has been my best in F1, scoring 48 world championship points, the highest I've ever achieved.

"It’s been a successful season, an incredible journey and I want to say a massive thanks to the team for the job they’ve done this year.

"Significantly, the points I scored were crucial in securing Sahara Force India sixth in the championship.

"Next year? To be honest, I don't know what's happening.

"What I do know is that I've fought hard to get into F1, and whenever I've had the right car I've delivered for the team. And believe me, I'll be doing everything I can to make sure I stay in F1."
