Di Resta court case settledposted in F110 | 02 | 2014

PAUL DI RESTA'S former manager, Anthony Hamilton, has reached an out-of-court settlement with the ex-Formula One driver after an acrimonious court case.

The Bathgate 27-year-old had been the subject of a bitter damages lawsuit instigated by Hamilton, the father of former F1 world champ Lewis Hamilton.

Hamilton snr had sued the Scot for breach of contract and loss of earnings after being sacked in 2012, which culminated in a damaging trial last December at the High Court in London.

Di Resta alleged Hamilton misled him over a multi-million-pound sponsorship deal, and his lawyers repeatedly accused his former manager of falsifying evidence.

Today, Hamilton issued a statement saying that he was happy to consider the case closed.

“I am very sorry that Paul and I fell out to the extent we did, and I am pleased to put this matter to bed,” he said.

It is unclear whether any money has changed hands as part of the settlement, but significantly, an order has been filed dismissing the claims, suggesting Hamilton's claim was unsuccessful.

In his brief statement, Di Resta — who will race for Mercedes in this season's German Touring Car Championship — was factual and to the point.

“This has been a difficult year," the talented young Scot, who lost his F1 drive with Force India, as a result of the court case, stated, "and I am just pleased to put it behind me and to concentrate on my racing.

"I am looking forward to racing in DTM for Mercedes this year and to the future ahead.”
