McPhee fired-up for Argentinaposted in OTHER07 | 04 | 2017

SCOT JOHN McPHEE returns to Moto3 GP action in Argentina this weekend determined to build on his second-place in the season-opener in Qatar.

But the 23-year-old from Oban, who missed out on victory by just 0.135-seconds, knows he’s in for a tough battle on the 2.98-mile Termas de Rio circuit, 500 miles north-west of Buenos Aires.

“It was brilliant to start the season with a podium, and especially in my first race on the new British Talent Team’s Honda,” McPhee said today.

“We’ve set the bar high now for the rest of the season, but we’re under no illusion just how difficult it’s going to be this weekend.”

And the Scot, who completed an intensive test session at Spain’s Motorland Aragon circuit before flying to South America, expects the competition to be as close as it was in the season-opener.

“A fortnight ago in Qatar, the first eight riders crossed the finish line covered by just 0.878secs,” McPhee continued. “I don’t think it’s going to be much different this weekend.

“The competition level throughout the Moto3 GP field is intense, and closer than I think it’s ever been. That means there’s no room for errors and every rider is pushing to the max to get the result.

“I know I go into the race weekend with a fast bike. The Honda was brilliant in Qatar and we tweaked it further during our testing in Spain. I’m up for the race this weekend.”

McPhee will again face stiff competition from fellow Honda riders, Spaniards Joan Mir, who won in Qatar, and Jorge Martin. Another Spaniard, Aron Canet and Italian Romano Fenati — who completed the top five last time out — will also push McPhee for victory.
