Di Resta retained by Williams F1posted in F120 | 02 | 2017

BATHGATE’S PAUL DI RESTA has been retained as reserve driver for the Williams Formula 1 team for 2017.

The 30-year-old Scot, who will again also contest the German Touring Car Championship (DTM) with Mercedes this year, will be back-up for Brazilian Felipe Massa and Canadian rookie Lance Stroll.

Di Resta, who is also expected to return as an analyst on Sky Sport’s coverage of F1, will spend time on the Williams’ F1 simulator and attend grands prix to understand the car and working procedures should he be required to step in.

“I’m delighted to remain at Williams as Reserve Driver for the 2017 season” Di Resta, who made his grand prix race debut in 2011 for Force India, starting 88 GPs in three years, said today.

"I'm looking forward to getting to grips with the controls and procedures of the FW40 and understanding the new regulations.

"I would like to take this opportunity to thank Claire (Williams) and everyone at Williams for their continued support in being part of the team."

Deputy team principal Claire Williams added: "It’s great for us to retain someone with Paul’s experience in the team. His extensive Formula One knowledge will once again be invaluable, especially with new regulations in place for the 2017 season.

“Paul has been a great asset to the team over the past year and it is great that we will be able to continue working with him again in 2017."
