SCOTLAND’S MOTORSPORT CENTRE at Knockhill will host the second round of the new TCR UK touring car championship in 2018. The series will race at the Fife circuit on May 12-13. (Related: Reverse Knockhill run for SMRC)
The provisional calendar for the first TCR UK season was revealed yesterday (Wed), and includes a line-up of seven events spread around England and Scotland.
“We are delighted to be included within the provisional TCR championship announcement as it gives the championship exposure throughout the length and breadth of Britain,” Stuart Gray, Knockhill Events Director, said.
“With the nature of the Knockhill Circuit, the racing is sure to be close, very spectacular and entertaining.”
Knockhill joins Britain’s other leading circuits, Silverstone, Brands Hatch, Castle Combe, Oulton Park, Croft and Donington Park, on the calendar.
Scottish fans have already seen a number of TCR cars in full flight around the twists and dips of Knockhill, courtesy of Finlay Crocker and Andrew Morrison (both pictured) at Scottish Motor Racing Club events.
TCR, which uses manufacturer-based touring cars which are cheaper to own and run than those in the British Touring Car Championship (BTCC), already operates an international series.
It’s expected there could be as many as 40 cars on the grid for the UK championship.
“I’m delighted we’ve been able to confirm the calendar so soon after announcing the TCR UK series,” Jonathan Ashman, the Promoter of TCR UK, said.
“We’ve been amazed at the response from drivers and teams ever since we made the initial announcement, and the unveiling of the calendar means those teams and drivers can now make firm plans for the 2018 season.”
The season opens at Silverstone on March 31-April 1, and finishes at Donington on October 13/14. None of the rounds clash with the 60th anniversary calendar of the BTCC, which also visits Knockhill on August 25/26.
