Mitchell aims to build Blancpain successposted in OTHER17 | 04 | 2018

SCOTS TEENAGER SANDY MITCHELL steps up to the European-based Blancpain GT Series Endurance Cup this season. And the 18-year-old from Forfar is aiming to build more success behind the wheel of his 190mph Lamborghini Huracan GT3 with the backing of InverTay Homes.

This is the first season the talented young Scot has received the support of the Dundee-based company, one of Scotland’s leading house builders. The InverTay logo will appear on Mitchell’s racesuit and helmet, plus his stunning Lamborghini.

“I’m delighted to welcome InverTay Homes as a race Partner,” Mitchell, a member of the prestigious British Racing Drivers’ Club Rising Star scheme, said.

“Having the support of a major local company from Dundee is important to me, and I’m looking forward to building a longterm relationship with the company.

“I have no doubts they’ll help me put the blocks in place for a successful debut season in the ultra-competitive Blancpain GT championship.

“Stepping up to what is the premier European endurance championship in a GT3 Lamborghini signals my intention to make it to the very top in sportscars. With InverTay Homes supporting me, I’m confident we can deliver winning results.”

And the new partnership was welcomed by Edward Wighton, director of operations at InverTay Homes.

“Sandy has an incredible natural talent and we have been lucky enough to see first-hand his ability in the car, as well as his maturity and professionalism out of the car,” Wighton said.

“We firmly believe Sandy has what it takes to make it to the very top in sportscars. At InverTay Homes, we take great pride in providing the very best opportunities for all of our workforce to grow and progress in their career, and it is this ethos that forms the foundation of our company.”

It’s a sentiment supported by the Dundee company’s commercial director, Michael Pratt.

“This same ethos has encouraged us to offer our support to several groups and individuals who show great promise throughout the areas in which we operate,” he said.

“Sandy is only 18 and has achieved so much in his career already. We hope the support offered by InverTay Homes will help him develop his potential and we very much look forward to sharing in his success.”

Mitchell already has two successful sportscar seasons under his belt racing a McLaren in the British GT4 Championship, where he became the youngest-ever race winner, aged just 16 years.

Now he and InverTay Homes are stepping up their combined presence in motorsport by tackling the Blancpain GT Series. The talented young Scot will drive a Barwell Motorsport-prepared Black Bull Lamborghini Huracan GT3.

The young gun will share his car with 23-year-old Italian Michele Beretta and 20-year-old Croatian Martin Kodric. The trio will contest the new, ultra-competitive Blancpain Silver Cup Junior Pro Class when the season starts at Monza, in Italy, on April 21/22.

Mitchell will make his 24-hours debut when he contests the Blancpain GT’s Blue Riband race, the Spa 24Hours, at the end of July. The championship also visits Silverstone, Paul Ricard and Barcelona.
