New Toyota Prius prices revealed 09 | 11 | 2015

TOYOTA HAS REVEALED pricing and spec details for its new Prius. On-sale now at Toyota dealerships across Scotland, with prices starting at £23,295, the first deliveries are expected next March.

This fourth-generation Prius sees a £1300 increase on the previous entry-model. That said, the car does come with more kit. You now get dual-zone climate control, keyless start, LED headlamps, a touchscreen infotainment system with DAB radio, adaptive cruise control and an electric driver's seat on the entry Active model.

Step up to the £24,195 Business Edition, which is targeted at company car users, and you add soft-touch cabin trim, a head-up display, heated front seats, a leather wheel, blind spot monitor and a wireless phone charger. The Business Edition Plus also gets 17in alloys, satnav and Park Assist.

The range-topping Prius Excel, which will set you back£27,450, benefits from leather upholstery, a JBL premium audio system, rain-sensing wipers and extra connectivity functions for the infotainment system.

Toyota's new 'Safety Sense' active assist tech bundle — which includes pre-collision warning that can detect cars and pedestrians, autonomous emergency braking, lane departure alert, road sign assist and auto high-beam — is standard across all models

The all-new platform, unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show (pictured) in September, utilises a 1.8-litre petrol engine paired with a downsized electric motor and a separate electric power unit to drive the rear wheels.

The result is improvements in economy and CO2 emissions at around 90mpg and 70g/km. Toyota has also promised better economy on the motorway. Buyers of the new models should also expect a more responsive CVT gearbox.

The nickel-metal hybrid battery is now more compact, and according to the Japanese car giant, charging times “have been significantly improved”. Toyota also claims the new drivetrain will “sharpen performance” and, as it’s more compact, enhance boot capacity.

Next year will also see the introduction of a new Prius Plug-in. Featuring a small boost in the electric-only range of 15.5 miles, it will also see an incremental improvement on the current economy and emissions figures of 134mpg and 49g/km. These will come from upgrades to the lithium-ion battery pack, aerodynamics and friction losses in the powertrain.
