Porsche Macan GTS revealed 28 | 10 | 2015

PORSCHE HAS UNVEILED its new Macan GTS at the Tokyo Motor Show. The new version — which benefits from visual and chassis upgrades, plus a boost in power — slots into the line-up between the Macan S and Turbo. Priced at £55,188, order books are open now with first deliveries expected at Scottish Porsche Centres early in 2016.

Using the same twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre V6 petrol engine as the Macan S, Porsche engineers have reworked the unit to boost power by 20bhp to 355bhp, up from 335bhp: torque has increased to 369lb/ft.

The GTS comes with Porsche’s silky smooth PDK seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission with paddle shifters, plus the Porsche Traction Management system that splits the power distribution to the four wheels as required.

Sensibly, the brakes have been upgraded to deal with the extra power: carbon-ceramic versions are available as an option.

Porsche’s Active Suspension Management system is fitted as standard, but in the new GTS it has been tweaked to offer a ride height that sits 15mm lower than standard. A sports exhaust has also been fitted as standard.

Naturally there has been an increase in performance. Top speed for the Macan GTS rises to 160mph, while the 0-62mph is covered in 5.2sec, or 5.0sec when the GTS is equipped with the Sport Chrono package (a £729 option).

The Chrono Package adds upgrades including revised throttle mapping, a different transmission shift program and a different engagement point for the traction control system, allowing a greater degree of slip before it kicks in.

Not surprisingly, there's a dip in fuel economy  when compared with the Macan S: the combined figure for the GTS drops by  0.7mpg to 31.4mpg combined, while CO2 emissions are up to 212g/km from 207g/km in the Macan S.

Externally, the GTS gets 20in matt black alloys as standard, plus gloss black details on the upper areas of the exterior. Inside the cabin, the GTS is distinguished by  GTS-badged sports seats and further GTS badging throughout the cabin.

Options include an electrically-operated tailgate, and LED lights are available as an option for the first time on the Macan range. The red paint (pictured) is exclusive to the Macan GTS, as it is across the rest of Porsche's GTS range.
