Prices revealed for new Astra Tourer 22 | 10 | 2015

VAUXHALL'S NEW ASTRA Sports Tourer will start from £16,585 when it appears in Scottish showrooms next March. And, according to Vauxhall, the newcomer promise to set high standards of spec, even on the entry models.

Air conditioning, cruise control, electric front and rear windows, and remote central locking are all included as standard on the base level Design spec, as are 16in alloys, black roof rails, chrome window trim and a rear spoiler.

Buyers can choose from a comprehensive engine range, including a frugal 1.6-litre diesel engine with stop-start, capable of 85.6mpg with CO2 emissions of 86g/km. The sporty SRi-spec gets a punchy 197bhp 1.6-litre petrol engine.

According to Vauxhall, the newcomer — which made its debut at last month's Frankfurt Motor Show — gets more interior space, plus improved efficiency and reduced weight.

Worth highlighting then that the new Tourer enjoys the same basic dimensions as the model it replaces, with an overall length of 4702mm and a width of 1871mm. Styling tweaks though have freed up an additional 26mm of front head room, 28mm more rear head room and an extra 80 litres of luggage space. And with the rear seats folded down, the Sports Tourer now has a capacity of 1630 litres.

The stowage are is versatile too, with the benefit of a 40/20/40 split rear seat as standard. Splash out on the optional products from the FlexOrganiser range, and you can add side rails, fasteners and cargo nets.

Sensibly, Vauxhall is offering the ability to open and close the rear hatch electronically by waving a foot below the rear bumper. Try that when you'e carrying a heavy box of goodies!

Like the sister Astra hatch, the Tourer benefits from the switch to General Motors' latest D2 platform, carving up to 200kg off the weight of the previous generation estate (oops, did I call it an estate?).

Inside, it's the same cabin trim and fascia design from the recently launched Astra, which means Vauxhall’s OnStar connectivity package and an infotainment system that offers Apple’s CarPlay and Android Auto.
