707bhp Jeep fastest SUV in world 13 | 04 | 2017

JEEP HAS LIFTED the wraps from what is the most powerful series production SUV to go on sale yet; faster even than the Bentley Bentayga. Say ‘hello’ to the new 707bhp Grand Cherokee Trackhawk, which made its debut at the New York Motor Show.

Powered by a supercharged 6.2-litre V8, lifted from the Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat, the Trackhawk sprints from 0-60mph in 3.5sec, faster than a Porsche Cayenne Turbo S. The Jeep’s top speed is 180mph, the same as the Jaguar F-Type SVR.

The Jeep’s 645lb/ft of torque is delivered to all four wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission. There’s also an electronic limited-slip differential and beefed up rear axle which work with the car’s launch control to enable its more-than-rapid acceleration.

Sitting on Bilstein adaptive dampers that can be adjusted through five drive modes, the Jeep is also fitted with 20in alloy wheels and 295-width Pirelli tyres. As for stoping power, there’s Brembo 400mm front and 350mm rear discs that work with six and four-piston calipers respectively.

Aesthetically, the Jeep gets sports quad-exit exhausts, thick bumpers and a roof spoiler. Inside the cabin, there’s a 7in digital instrument cluster and 8.4in touchscreen, with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto included, all to be enjoyed from the comfort of deeply bolstered leather seats.

Oh, and remember the Bentayga? Well not only is it down on power by 107bhp, it takes an extra hals-second to reach 60mph from standstill.

But here’s the bad news: Jeep has yet to confirm whether the Trackhawk will come to Britain. If it does — and there are whispers a few might just cross the pond — it’s likely to set you back at least £75,000.
