Ssangyong reveals XAVL concept  20 | 02 | 2017

SSANGYONG HAS REVEALED the first official images of its seven-seat SUV concept, the XAVL, which will make sits public debut at next month’s Geneva Motor Show

A new iteration of the five-seat XAV concept shown at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show, the seven-seat XAVL — which stands for ‘exciting authentic vehicle long’ –  is said by Ssangyong to be inspired by the second-generation Korando model from the 1990s.

It’s understood the new concept will measure close to 4630mm in length, 1866mm in width, 1640mm in height and have a 2775mm wheelbase. That would pitch it against the likes of the Nissan X-Trail and Skoda Kodiaq.

According to the Korean car maker, the new concept has a user-friendly interface with connected car technology and a digital display. It also comes with new safety aids for pedestrians as well as drivers and passengers.

Power will come from a choice of petrol and diesel engines, and the new model is expected to sit above a new Korando but below the forthcoming Rexton in the updated Ssangyong range.

No confirmation has been made that the XAVL will actually be built. However, if it does get the green light we’re unlikely to see it in Scottish showrooms until at least 2020.
