Audi unveils new 444bhp RS5 08 | 03 | 2017

    AUDI HAS RELEASED its all-new RS5 Coupe, which will go on-sale at Scottish dealerships in June with prices expected to start around £63,000.

    Powered by a new 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6 engine delivering 444bhp and 600Nm of torque, it will hit 62mph from standstill in 3.9secs and cary on to a maximum of 174mph … as long as you’ve gone for the option pack which removes the limiter.

    Interestingly, the 444bhp figure as the same as was produced by the outgoing V8, while the torque figure actually shows an increase of 170Nm. The new model, shown for the first time in Geneva, is also 0.7s quicker over the 0-62mph sprint.

    Significantly, the newcomer is also more fuel efficient, returning 32.5mpg and emitting CO2 emissions of 197g/km; that’s 17% better than the old V8 model. These figures are aided by the fat the new model is 60kg lighter at 1655kg.

    Power is channelled to all four wheels via an eight-speed tiptronic automatic gearbox, with the delivery split 40:60, so most of the power heads to the rear wheels. An optional sport differential will be offered on the car.

    A number of options are aimed at further improving the driving experience, including revised steering that’s unique to the RS model, ceramic brakes and dynamic ride control with sports suspension. As usual with Audi’s there’s a range of driving modes to select from within the car.

    Inside the cabin, the 2017 RS5 gets a flat-bottomed steering wheel, sports seats with optional diamond stitching, and RS logos around the cabin. as yo would expect, Audi’s virtual cockpit is present, and features info on torque and g-forces, plus a shift light at the rev limiter.

    Externally, there’s large air vents on the front bumper and wider wheel arches, Audi’s honeycomb grille, signature oval tailpipes, plus a boot spoiler and a rear diffuser. The car sits on 19in alloys, though 20in wheels are available as an option.
