JLR to electrify model range by 2020 07 | 09 | 2017

JAGUAR LAND ROVER today confirmed that every new model launched from 2020 will include an electric variant. That means, from 2020, all JLR models will include either a fully electric, plug-in hybrid or 48V mild hybrid option. Significantly, it will also continue to offer both diesel and petrol variants across the JLR range.

“Every new Jaguar Land Rover model line will be electrified from 2020, giving our customers even more choice,” Dr Ralf Speth, Jaguar Land Rover CEO, said.

“We will introduce a portfolio of electrified products across our model range, embracing fully electric, plug-in hybrid and mild hybrid vehicles.” (Related: Scots face 2032 petrol/diesel cutoff)

Jaguar’s first fully electric vehicle goes on sale at Scottish dealerships next year in the form of the I-Pace (pictured). Priced from around £55,000, the all-electric Jaguar SUV has a claimed range of at least 300 miles, and a powertrain with up to 395bhp. (Related: Jaguar I-Pace hits the streets)

This will spawn additional all-electric vehicles across both Jaguar and Land Rover. Both will also use the architecture and components currently being developed for what will become a river to the Tesla Model X. A Range Rover update due later this year is expected to contain new hybrid variants.

It’s also expected that hybrid models of the XE, XJ and F-Pace are currently at an advanced stage of development.
